Amusement parks are not just incredible to kids, we all know adults like ourselves love them just as much, but are sometimes too ashamed to admit it.

A perfect excuse to behave as reckless and as unrestrained like a child, theme parks are really saviours in our somewhat stressful lives. If you’re looking for a destination for your next holiday, how about skipping those calm resorts in Bali or Phuket, and head to these international scream parks to release stress instead?

Speaking of amusement parks, many will often think of Disneyland at the top of their head. Disneyland is equivalent to “Dream”-land, an out-of-this-world getaway that people hold so dearly in their hearts. Almost unrivalled, Disneyland doesn’t just sell rides, they sell a kind of lifestyle, with a lot of fun to boot. There is a reason why children spend their one special birthday wish to visit Disneyland, why couples spend their honeymoon at this resort, and even one as smart as Hazel (cue the Fault in our Stars) would spend her dying wish on a visit to Disneyland.

However, as Disneyland continues to be popular in its own right, more and more people are also simultaneously turning to other alternatives to Disneyland as it gets over-commercialized and costly. Exciting new theme parks are springing out to give Disneyland a run for their money, and offering an equal amount of fun and scares… Why shouldn’t you try them out?

Check out some of these alternatives that may offer even more thrill and excitement for even the biggest daredevil. Click here to find out how you can earn enough cash to pay for your funfair adventure when travelling.

Are you ready?

Six Flags, Various states in America

Not enough thrills in the theme parks you normally visit? Six Flags can offer you the Goliath ride, a new installation which is in fact the world’s tallest (180 feet), fastest (72 mph), and steepest (85 degrees) wooden coaster. If this doesn’t do it for you, jump onto the X2, the world’s first 4D roller coaster which travels at 76 miles per hour, bringing your adrenaline with you up 20 stories while simultaneously twisting 360 degrees. Thrilled, yet?

Also, there’s a little something dedicated towards superhero fanatics – the highly anticipated new addition: a 4D interactive dark ride called Justice League: Battle for Metropolis. This new ride will be ready in 2015 at the Six Flags over Texas and Six Flags over St. Louis.

Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, Denmark

As theme park goers seek the most insane and gravity defying rides, Tivoli is perhaps often overlooked. However, as the second oldest amusement park in the world, it continues to have a hold on the imagination, be it if you’re young or old.

A combination of both theme park and pleasure garden, Tivoli surely appeals to everybody. Especially beautiful at night, it is the ideal place for people who are looking for fun or to have a relaxed time with their loved ones. You can choose to ride on the famous wooden roller coaster, Rutschebanen, or simply take it easy with a romantic stroll in the gardens while enjoying good old Fish ‘n’ Chips, and a cup of cold beer.

Everland, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea

Definitely offering one of the best theme park thrills is South Korea’s Everland, located just outside the capital city, Seoul (about an hour’s bus ride away).

For the daredevils, the T-Express is the ride you absolutely cannot miss. This wooden rollercoaster flies at a top speed of 104km/hr at a 77-degree angle, and it will certainly prove to be one hell of a ride. If you’re a faint-hearted one, don’t be disheartened. You can simply take a stroll in the colourful, seasonal flower gardens – it is so picturesque that you will not hesitate to stop in your tracks just so you can take a photo of the scenery.

Everland is also fortunately one of the more affordable amusement parks in the world – and trust me, you get all your money’s worth for the variety of rides and the scenery. The size of the park alone may also impress, as it is much bigger as compared to the nation’s other favourite, Lotte World in Seoul.

Fuji Q Highland, Mt Fuji, Japan

Trust the Japanese to offer all the thrills and scares. This theme park’s star attraction literally includes the 2-storey ride called the “Labyrinth of Fear” (modelled after a haunted hospital), which has the longest route in history of 900m; the course itself lasts up to an hour. It is filled with scares from real actors dressed up as ghosts at every corner of the building. Surely, that’s why the Fuji Q website also advertises itself by stating that those who experience it “are beyond hope of being saved”. Definitely worth a try, no?

But if you’re simply not into horror, jump straight into any of the 4 acclaimed, hair-raising roller coaster rides in Fuji Q – we dare you.

Universal Studios, Florida, US

This theme park in America remains one of the best for many reasons. Its star attraction, needless to say, is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which had also seen its highly-anticipated Diagon Alley expansion happen a couple of months back. This is the place that allows us to relive our Harry Potter days despite the end of the magical film series, and will definitely hold an extra special place in the hearts of many muggle fans.
