Air Purifiers For RM 2361 To Beat The Haze: An Honest Review
If you’re like me, you would have checked the PSI reading at least twice daily during the haze season. This seasonal phenomenon is temporary but has caused some 57 school closures in Klang and Kuala Langat this year. Perhaps you would have invested in an N95 mask (or two.)
I was one of those unlucky enough to queue for an hour at the pharmacy only to be told that the N95 masks were out of stock. With no other options as the PSI levels rose over 200, I decided to spend RM 2361 on air purifiers to get my home equipped against the haze.
The Dyson Pure Cool Me™ Personal Air Purifier Fan
I bought the Dyson Pure Cool Me™ Personal Air Purifier Fan(RM 1699) for its portable size. It is small enough to fit on my bedside table and a good accessory for the bedroom! I can close the windows in my bedroom now during the haze season and still get clean air with this air purifier.
I’ll go into some of its features below:
1. Nothing Over 63.5DB
I’m still greatly surprised at how quiet this fan was. Usually, the other fans I have made plenty of noise, making it pretty hard to concentrate while writing or watching my favourite TV show. With a minimum noise level of just 37dB, it’s easy on the ears— you won’t even notice it’s there!
2. Quick-Change Filter
Not only is the Dyson Pure Cool Me’s filter HEPA(High-Efficiency Particulate Air) certified and removes 99.9% of particles in the air, it is also a breeze to change! Simply pop the top of your Pure Cool Me, replace the filter with a new one and you’re good to go. Me and taking apart machines don’t really mix, but this filter is too easy to replace. You definitely can’t go wrong with this one. It’s as easy as changing a lightbulb!
Bonus: Dyson’s Pure Cool Me even tells you how long you have till you have to change its filter(approximately 12 months), so you can relax about that one.
3. Simple Controls
I thought it was going to be difficult to use at first, but I opened the package only to find a tiny remote control with five buttons. Switching between fan speeds is really easy, and there’s even a button for you to oscillate the fan! I spent the first hour mostly fiddling around with the fan speeds to find that sweet spot.
Bonus: I discovered you can slide the plastic disc on the fan itself to change the height of their airflow. As my bed is pretty low, I keep the disc pointed towards the bottom.
What’s there not to love?
I’ll admit that no product is without flaws, but I can’t really complain as the Dyson Pure Cool Me is packed with features for its size.
I really love the Dyson Pure Cool Me for its portability and ease of use. My parents were impressed by how easy it is to change its filter and how quiet it is. It costs RM 1699 and comes with a 2-year warranty, which is more than enough time to get your fan issues(if any) sorted. I don’t have to breathe the heavily polluted air at home anymore with my Dyson Pure Cool Me, and I can even use it as a normal fan when the haze goes!

The Samsung Virus Doctor Air Purifier
But wait! Buying one small air purifier is clearly not enough against the haze. I decided to invest in the Samsung Virus Doctor (RM 662) for my living room. I had it delivered so I didn’t have to cart my purchase home. True to its name, it keeps away dust, viruses and bacteria and assured my family that my grandparents with allergies would be able to breathe safely.
Here’s what I loved:
1. Air Quality Indicator
The Samsung Virus Doctor comes with an air quality indicator, which is especially useful during the haze season. It senses the unhealthy air and adjusts the fan speed accordingly to filter out the unhealthy air and replace it with clean air. The Air Quality Indicator will turn blue when the room’s air quality is healthy. It turned blue within an hour of use!
2. 4-Step Filtration System
The air goes through a pre-filter, de-odorization filter and PM 2.5 filter before it is released. It also comes with a plasma ioniser that helps remove up to 99% of contaminants, bacteria and viruses. We felt the noticeable difference in the air quality for the better. I thought breathing in the fresh air would be impossible in this haze, but I was proved wrong.
With young children in the house, we were worried that they would hurt themselves while playing in the living room with the air purifier in the corner. I was pleased to learn about the Child Lock feature which ensures that the little ones wouldn’t get anywhere near the air filters. It also has rounded edges so the kids could play without us worrying about them bumping into sharp edges.
But there must be something?
My only gripe is its one-year warranty, but for its cheap cost, it is definitely worth the buy.
I love the Samsung Virus Doctor Air Purifier for its allergy-friendly technology and its air quality indicator. If you’ve got elderly or young children at home, the Samsung Virus Doctor will ensure the air they breathe in is safe for fewer trips to the doctors! You can use it outside the haze season as well to clean your air!
