1. Perhentian/Redang Island

Both Perhentian and Redang Island boast of crystal clear waters and immaculate sandy beaches. You can get to these islands via bus from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu. The bus fare costs between RM 40 to RM43 and takes about 6 to 7 hours dependent on traffic. Upon arrival at Kuala Terengganu main bus terminal, you can catch a local taxi to Shahbandar Jetty to head to Redang Island, or Kuala Besut Jetty to head to Perhentian Island.
2. Langkawi

The official name of Langkawi is Langkawi Permata Kedah which means Jewel of Kedah. It is one of the most popular beaches on the west coast of Malaysia. Other than relaxing by the sea, you can choose to go on a hike to the waterfalls, take a walk on the sky bridge or shop to your heart’s content on this duty-free shopping island! Getting to Langkawi takes about 6 to 7 hours via bus from Kuala Lumpur and then you can take a short ferry ride from Kuala Perlis to Langkawi Island. The coach ride costs between RM42 to RM50 whereas the ferry ticket is RM18 for adults and RM13 for children.
3. Tioman Island

Tioman is a snorkelling heaven with rich coral reefs, making it a popular island for tourists and locals alike. Other than its diverse marine life, the island has an inland rainforest area that is home to several protected mammal species such as the black giant squirrel and mouse deer. This idyllic paradise is perfect for taking a break from the daily hustle and reconnecting with nature. After catching a 4 to 5 hours coach ride from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing (bus fare is RM33), you can proceed to Mersing Jetty to take the ferry to Tioman Island.
4. Pangkor Island

It is interesting to note that name of this island originates from the Thai word ‘Pang Ko’ which means beautiful island. Pulau Pangkor is an ideal choice if you prefer a quieter beach and is easy to get to as well. You can snorkel or parasail, visit inland temples or venture into the jungle trails at Teluk Segadas Hill. You will have to catch a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Lumut which takes about 4 hours then take a ferry to Pangkor. The bus fare will you set you back around RM27 and round-trip ferry tickets are RM10 for adults and RM5 for children.
5. Batu Ferringhi, Penang

For a gastronomic adventure, sample some delicious local fare at the beautiful beach of Batu Ferringhi, located north of Penang. All the hotels have their own private beaches with endless water activities for you to do in the day time. At night, you can visit the night markets or have a feast at the local hawker stalls. A coach ride from Kuala Lumpur to Penang takes about 4 hours and costs about RM37 to RM42.
