How To Shop For Taobao Goods With Lazada [#ShopFest Guide]
11.11 Singles’ Day is the biggest shopping festival on Taobao, and it’s high time to go online: the prices are cheaper, the options are plenty, and the effort is easier. But if you’re not Chinese (or if you are but you’re allergic to Chinese characters), shopping on Taobao can be a daunting experience.
Thankfully there’s another way to get your hands on goods from Asia’s largest online store without an agent — getting your Taobao fix directly through Lazada.
There are two ways of viewing the Taobao collection on Lazada, so here’s a thorough guide to browsing so you don’t have to search high and low for what you want.
Typing Taobao or Taobao Collection in the Lazada search bar
At first glance, there seems to be a pretty good list to choose from, with some options such as shoes being separated into Oxfords & Lace-ups and Flat Sandals. But for online shopping, 4,230 items are not a lot, and the categories can be confusing: the “fashion” category brings you to men’s watches and the “casual” category to women’s watches.
If you look at what comes up as search results for the “casual” category and get frustrated because it’s showing many variations of what’s basically the same watch, don’t worry. We’ll find you an easier way to get around this.
It can get doubly confusing if you see an item tagged as both “Taobao Collection” and “Global Collection”.
The difference between Taobao Collection and Global Collection is:
- Taobao Collection are what’s on sale directly from Taobao
- Global Collection can come from anywhere in the world, including Taobao.
To save you the confusion, we recommend this next step instead:
Go straight to the exclusive Taobao collection
This is the URL you want to put in your search bar: https://www.lazada.com.my/taobao-collection/
Right away, we can see the option to check ‘Only in Taobao’ in the search bar, which is missing in the first method. You can also sort by brand or material. Not to mention that you probably couldn’t go through all the T-shirts on this list even if you wanted to (and we haven’t even started on shoes yet).
There is a myriad of categories at your disposal, from Baking Tools to Phone Cases, Wall Stickers and Decals (for those of you who’s already thinking of celebrating Chinese New Year when the year hasn’t even ended) and even a separate list for the young ones.
Here are some examples of what you can find through the Taobao Collection:
With the extensive Taobao Collection at your fingertips, you don’t have to worry about the minimum spending of RM60 for free shipping. Just look out for the image of the Taobao collection with its familiar orange background, you can’t miss it.
You can also get your hands on some limited Super Saver Vouchers for up to RM11 off your purchase!
Paying For Your Taobao Purchases With Cash On Delivery Through Lazada
You may also use Lazada’s trademark cash-on-delivery option, but take note that this payment method is only available in selected areas of Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak only. After making your purchase, don’t forget to track your order through Lazada Elogistics or LelExpress.
