Merdeka celebrations in Malaysia this August 2019 will set your heart ablaze with happening events all around town. So, get your patriotic spirit up and passion for culture, heritage, arts, food and entertainment ready for revelry. Here’s a must-see guide to exciting Merdeka promotions not to be missed this August.
Merdeka Day Parade
Who doesn’t love a parade? Especially when admission is free. If you do, head for the Merdeka Day Parade happening on 31 August 2019 at Putrajaya. Themed ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku: Malaysiaku Bersih’ (Love Malaysia: A Clean Malaysia), this year’s celebrations focus on the importance of unity and a shared prosperity.
What to expect? The spectacular parade will showcase a royal procession and singing of patriotic songs. Be dazzled by colourful floats that celebrate Malaysia’s cultural diversity.
Guests will be entertained by cultural performances that reflect the beauty of Malaysia. Just as spectacular are the military demonstrations that showcase the prowess of the army, navy and air force. Further, watch the Jalur Gemilang (National Flag) decorate the skies.
Finally, spectators are advised to arrive early to watch the parade to avoid any traffic congestion. Motorists are advised to be aware of closures of certain roads leading to the venue prior the parade. Nevertheless, the Merdeka Day Parade promises to be an event to remember.
Ola Bola The Musical Merdeka Tour
The award-winning production of Ola Bola The Musical rose to critical acclaim when it was staged in Istana Budaya. The show was sold out in 2018 and it was one the biggest musicals ever staged in Malaysia.
What’s the story? In short, the musical tells an inspiring tale of how the Malaysian football team overcame all obstacles to qualify for the 1980 Olympics. The audience can expect humour, drama, suspense and excitement all-in-one. The story unfolds with the football team persevering against all odds to resolve their problems.
Specially brought to audiences across the nation by Enfiniti Sdn Bhd, the Ola Bola Merdeka Tour is free for everyone. To commemorate the National Day spirit, the tour will be held at various venues on selected dates. The shows in Kuching are expected to be full-scale musical performances. However, the other locations will feature one-hour adaptations of the musical. Hence, this Merdeka musical treat is a wonderful way to celebrate the country’s National Day.
