Speakeasy bars (also known as hidden bars) were the new fad since 2016 but since then so many other bars have been coming up with new and interesting speakeasy concepts, and you should be aware of them! Apart from The Attic Bar on Jalan Balai Polis (off Petaling Street) that is getting pretty popular, here are a couple of other recommendations from us!
Jungle Bird, just like it’s name, is a jungle themed speakeasy bar located in Plaza Damansara. It is hidden upstairs a shop lot, leading you into a jungle fantasy. Their decorations are of rattan furniture, leafy wallpapers and dim lights. There’s a bar up front in the middle of the space and two different rooms for people to lounge around and enjoy the night.
They are also known as Rumah Rum to most. This cocktail bar serves a selection of over 100 different rums across the world. Their menu also consists of unique and classic cocktails, taps and iconic tikki drinks to make customers experience the wonders of in house creations.
Ladies can enjoy free selected rum cocktails on Thursdays from 9 pm – 12 am and also everyone is entitled for jolly spirits and taps at RM 12 and a 2 for RM45 cocktail promotion from Mondays to Saturdays and all day on Sundays! Be sure to check them out!

Botakliquor, also used to be known as Ray bar which was taken over not too long ago, above a popular restaurant called Chocha Foodstore. It’s a very unique looking bar, walking through a flight of spiral stairs into the bar. You’ll walk into a jungle of leafy plants hanging from the ceiling above the bar.
They cultivate mixology of stemming from pure spirits and also in house grown botanical. All of their cocktails are creatively decorated and very Instagram friendly as they open from late noon for the golden hour lighting. At night there are dim lights on for a more calming and quiet environment. Their menu shares options of very unique mixes of drinks, you’ll be surprised!
Returning customers applaud the ambience and good service from the team, getting reviews to be one of the best speakeasy bars that are yet to be known to the public.

The Pawn Room
Pawn Room has got to be one of the most hidden of all the speakeasy bars, leading you up a flight of stairs with a bathtub right in front of a wall of herbal cabinets, making you guess which handle to push that leads you into the actual bar.
Their decorations are all inspired by the Chinese culture and old China/ Shanghai. Tables can be reserved as it is highly popular after Instagram started flooding pictures of the bar. There are three sections of this bar, the one up front is where most sit around because it’s brighter and closer to the entrance, the second room is of red herbal cabinets and very unique designs but is usually seated by customers who pre book a table. The last area is where the bar is, having tall tables with high chairs, decorated with old Chinese newspapers on the walls.
They serve in house creations of cocktails and spirits, having a leverage of unique mixes to your taste bud. Overall reviews state that it’s a good speakeasy, great for catching up and chill sessions.

Omakase + Appreciate
Omakase is ran by two Malaysians, concealed in an office building basement without any signs to guide you into the bar. Their services vary from Japanese and also Western, achieving a good blend of cocktails for their customers.
It is an intimate space for customers to be able to communicate with each other and also able to sit around the bar and watch the bartenders make your drinks. Your drinks are all made by award-winning mixologists, able to tailor the drinks to your taste.
Omakase + Appreciate had been awarded Asia’s Top 10 Bars in 2016, highly recommended to those who’d love an intimate space with good drinks, definitely a more sophisticated pick.

Pahit is a gin specialized bar in Jalan Sin Chew Kee, right being the famous VCR cafe. It’s a rustic and chill 1920’s shop lot hidden speakeasy bar. Pahit took over another bar called Barlai, the owner of Coley’s also owns this current popular bar. You’ll be able to recognize it by a big art piece out front in the courtyard.
Pahit is usually packed on the weekends, so be sure to book yourself a table or seats to enjoy the speakeasy experience fully. There’s outdoor seating for those who enjoy drinking outside with a big neon margarita sign and also indoors where their bar is, decorated with a mirror ring light behind it.
There are also rooms in the inside to accommodate bigger groups of people. The ambience and services are highly praised in reviews by returning customers and new ones. Head down to Pahit and try out their unique gin cocktails now!
